Back-to-School Night Agenda and Topics
Syllabus - Due the first week of school.

I would like to welcome you to the sixth grade and to my classroom which is now in room 704. Below is some information about my classroom, and a short introduction on how to successfully navigate this web site. Have fun exploring this web site, and I look forward to seeing you soon!
Web site Navigation and Homework
This web site was created for students and parents to find useful information so that your transition to the middle school will be successful. Please take a few minutes to become familiar with this site so that you know where to find important information and links.
On this web site, you will find links to daily homework assignments, grades, and classroom curriculum. I recommend that parents check the homework link daily to ensure that students are completing assigned homework. To view daily homework updates, click on the homework link at the top of every page. If your son or daughter has completed all of his or her homework, then I encourage them to use the math, science, and social study links to reinforce their skills. Science links can be found on the science page, Social study WebQuests can be found on the social studies page, and math games can be found on the math page.
Online Grades
Twelve Bridges Middle School has purchased an online grading system through TeacherEase. You can find your son or daughter's current grade, assignments, and missing assignments on the TeacherEase Web site. I will also put a link at the top of every web page so that it is easily accessible. Please review the TeacherEase welcome letter.
Interactive Science Textbook
Twelve Bridges Middle School adopted a new science curriculum last year. This is the newest information available, and all of it can be accessed online. I will register all students in the computer lab on Friday, August 22, 2008; however, if you would like to register your son or daughter sooner for the online textbook, please go to Pearson Successnet. Then click on the register link. The access code can be found on the math and science homework calendar.
Interactive Science Labs
In order for students to complete the science labs, they will need to have access to a computer. Virtual science labs can be accessed under the science links. When science labs are assigned, students will be given a web code that can be found in the homework calendar or in the student's agenda. They will then need to click on the science labs link and enter the web code.
Math
As stated earlier, I recently added video links and practice problems from the Holt math book. These videos can be found under the Course 1 Videos link to the left on the math page. These videos are fun to watch and are also very educational. After watching these videos, you can test your knowledge by clicking on the corresponding practice link. In addition to the Holt math videos and practice problems, I have also provided students with a link to the daily math notes. Math notes can be accessed under Course 1 Math Notes on the math page. These are the same notes that I use in the classroom, so if your son or daughter is having trouble understanding their homework, please have them reread their daily math notes online and in the math notebook.
Social Studies
Due to an unexpected growth in enrollment, I am pleased to announce that I will be your tour guide to ancient civilizations this year. Therefore, I am extremely excited to take you on a trip around the world. We will be using the World Wide Web (WWW) as our vessel to virtually travel back in time to discover Mesoamerica, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Kush, Eastern Mediterranean, Italy, Greece, India, and China. On our journey back in time, I wish to awaken your curiosity by experiencing ancient geography, religion, art, politics, economics, and societies. For more, please view the social studies web page.
I hope you find this web site useful as your child progresses through the sixth grade. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email me at ddamos@wpusd.k1.ca.us.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Damos
